Great Printers Produce The Best Results

“If you want outstanding results, you need to get a great photo quality printer”

Printers are the final link in the chain to getting great photos. Have you tried printing from your basic color printer? Without a good printer the results will be merely acceptable. You will be satisfied with acceptable results if that is what your goal is. A printer that is designed for printing photos has the ink cartridges set up for photo printing. They use at least a 5 color cartridge plus a black cartridge. Some more sophisticated photo printers even use individual color cartridges. You need a separate black cartridge to dramatically change the crispness of the blacks. The more colors in the cartridges, the truer the colors when the photo is printed. The proper paper will also make a difference in the way a photo is printed.

Printers Provide the Foundation for Great Photo Printing

“Great printers show sharper details and crisper colors”

Basic printers have a low resolution printout. You can print documents with small pictures, but they would not do a good job printing photos. They would also be suitable for basic digital cameras. Photo printers have outputs with much higher resolution When you want more detail in your photos, you should look for at least 1440 dpi. These higher end printers (the cost keeps coming down) will be able to take advantage of the higher detail available in higher megapixel cameras and allow you to print larger photos. Some of the newer printers have slots for inserting memory cards so you can print directly from the card. They also usually have a small preview screen to let you make simple changes to your picture prior to printing. These are great when you just want a quick and easy picture without the fuss of total editing.

Good Ink Will Make the Colors Shine

“The better the ink, the more color will stay on the page without smearing and the brighter the colors will be”

The type of ink you use could have a huge impact on the quality of your print. When you have an entry level printer, you have little choice in what you can get. The ink dries on the surface of the paper, so the colors rub off easy. Have you had this problem? The more expensive photo printers use a better quality of ink, so your picture will stay crisp far longer. There are some low cost alternatives to manufacturer’s inks (although some manufacturers will not allow anyone to copy their cartridges). These low cost inks and ink refill kits are most effective where high quality is not a factor. There are also some intermediate inks that can do a good job. For the best results, though, manufacturer’s highly recommended to use their ink.

The Right Paper Will Make a Good Finishing Touch

“You must use the correct paper to make your photos look like professional prints so you can be proud to show them off”

Paper quality plays an important part in producing high quality prints. When you use standard paper, you will produce washed out pictures. In that case, printer and ink quality are not a factor. Photo quality papers produce a better quality print to use for brochures and such. The best quality prints are obtained by using glossy or matte photo paper. These produce prints comparable to the best film prints. It all depends what you want as an outcome.
